1. Squash Eyewear Research Project (SQERP)

Centre Investigators
Caroline Finch

Summary
Two consecutive annual surveys of squash players from a random sample of 50% of the squash venues in metropolitan Melbourne , and in-depth interviews with squash venue managers were undertaken. These results were used to develop a protective eyewear promotion intervention. In 2003, a quasi-experimental controlled trial of a comprehensive intervention to promote projective eyewear use was implemented. The Protective Eyewear Promotion was implemented in four large squash venues and players’ attitudes towards eye injury risk and protective equipment use monitored both before and after implementation. This was compared to similar data collected in four other large squash venues on the other side of the city without access to this intervention (the comparison venues).
